- Victor Marquez
Capcom is a video game giant, but it wasn’t always a well-known name in the gaming industry.
It had some ups and downs in the past but ever since the release of Resident Evil VII in 2017, they’ve been on the run.
Originally, it started out as an arcade game developer. But now, the company is both a publisher and a developer for all platforms.

…and more.
So, without further ado, let’s get started.
The History of Capcom
Capcom is one of the oldest video game companies to still remain on the top.
It was originally named I.R.M corporations. During this time, they worked on manufacturing video game arcade cabinets.
In 1983, they changed their name to Capcom and started developing their own video games with the release of Little League.
So, is Capcom a developer or a publisher?
Well, it is both a publisher and a developer. It is such a well-managed company that there are a few things that sets it apart from others.
For example, it does not depend on other studios to distribute its games. Instead, it works directly with physical or online points of sale.
Moreover, it only publishes its own games. You’ll very rarely find independent games published by Capcom. Those that are published are usually a part of joint projects.
