Gaming – Tutorials, How-To, FAQs
- Victor Marquez
If you’re a beginner, it might be difficult for you to pick up a video game and learn how to play.
Not only do you have to find the right game, but you also have the decision of choosing the best consoles, accessories, and peripherals for yourself.
This might be overwhelming at first, but trust us when we tell you that gaming is actually easier to get into today than ever. All you need is the right information and a little bit of patience. To help you out we’ve written this gaming guide for you.
Quick Summary
In this post, we will go over:
- Where to start?
- Games for beginners
…and more.
So, without further ado, let’s get started.
Where to Start?
The first thing you need to do is sort out what you’re going to play. The chances are you already own a smartphone or a PC, so you’re set there.
However, if you’re looking to expand your options, the Nintendo Switch is a great console for beginners.
There are two variants of the Nintendo Switch, the regular Switch, and the Switch Lite.
We suggest you go with the regular Switch since it allows you to play with family and friends. But, if you’ll be playing solo, Switch Lite is also a good option.
PlayStation or Xbox?
If you want a more powerful console, you can choose between Playstation 4 or Xbox One.
They might be a little daunting for a first-time user. But, they have a huge gaming library and an amazing multiplayer option that you can enjoy.
So, which one should you go for?
If you’re after stunning visuals, Playstation 4 has a library full of beautifully designed games. Some of our favorites are God of War and the Uncharted series.
Although these games set the bar for quality, they might not be the most beginner-friendly.
Xbox, on the other hand, has a weaker library. But it’s a good option if you want something more affordable. Most of the games are often on sale so you can buy them for a pretty good price.
It also allows you to use it as a hub from your cable in addition to streaming apps. So, if you decide to go with an Xbox, it’ll make a good TV box.
How To Make The Most Out of Mobile Gaming?
If you own an Android or iOS device, you already have the most popular gaming device. Anything over the iPhone 6 should work great.
But, if you want to kick it up a notch, we suggest getting yourself a gaming control to attach it to your mobile device.
You can either go with the Xbox One controller or PlayStation DualShock 4 for a cheaper alternative.
This is the best way to get a console experience on a budget.
Moreover, these controllers pair well via Bluetooth with both Android and iOS.
Should I Opt for PC Gaming?
Similar to a mobile, you probably already have a PC. But, in order to play, you’ll have to check system specifications and the PC requirements for your chosen game.
Due to all the complications that go into a PC setup, we suggest you avoid PCs until you get a little more experienced.
Gaming PCs are not only more expensive than consoles but they’re also hard to use and maintain.
Games for Beginners
We all have some idea of what we want to play. Some may enjoy action-adventure games, while others may prefer puzzles.
So, the first thing you need to do is find an online forum, message board, Facebook group, or Reddit subreddit that focuses on your game of choice.
Contrary to popular belief, such gaming communities are welcoming and will help you ease your way into the gaming world.
However, we don’t recommend you ask questions on YouTube videos or generalized forums such as Twitter. You’ll only be wasting your time since you need a community that is specifically focused on your game of choice.
Recommendations
Now for the recommendations.
For iOS, Android, all consoles, and Windows, there’s no better way to start than Minecraft.
If you could consider any game as training wheels, this would be it. What we love about it is that it’s extremely easy to run on all platforms, including PC.
Moreover, it consists of low-stress and low-stake environments, so you won’t have to worry too much as a new player. Once you’re acclimated to Minecraft, you can move on to other games.
Another low-pressure game is Sky for iOS. This is a great game to play with your family since it’s suitable for people of all ages.
Moreover, it’s a great way to get used to the 3D movement, which is essential when it comes to gaming.
If you want a little more action, you can try Portal 2 for Windows and macOS.
The goal of the game is to get from one side of the room to another using a portal gun. We think this game will be a great introduction to how video game physics work and how objects interact in games.
For competitive games, there’s nothing better than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch.
When you master Mario Kart, you can move on to more intense racing games like the Gran Turismo or Forza Horizon series.
If you’re feeling confident and want to try a first-person shooter, we suggest you start with Halo.
It’s available on both Xbox and Windows. One thing we appreciated about this game is that it has different difficulty modes. So, you can start with easy and gradually make your way to hard.
Conclusion
Now you can start your journey into gaming. It might be intimidating at first but it gets easier along the road.
There is something for everyone when it comes to gaming regardless if you’re a pro or a beginner.
Gaming reviews and guides will be your best friend. It’s the easiest way to get tips and instructions on games you want to try but never played before.
